On May 29, rapper Beenzino shared a social media post captioned “World Burgundy Day,” featuring a photo of himself holding his baby son, both dressed in burgundy. He also highlighted pants from his fashion brand, IAB Studio.

While the post may have seemed casual, its timing—coinciding with early voting for South Korea’s 21st presidential election—quickly stirred controversy.

Netizens speculated that the use of burgundy, a color associated with the conservative party, was a subtle political message. The situation escalated when actor Lee Dong-hwi liked the post and left a heart emoji, which he later deleted.

Online reactions were swift, with users criticizing Beenzino for the post’s perceived political undertones. Some commented, “Just say you support candidate number 2,” and “I’m deleting all your songs.” The backlash also extended to IAB Studio, a sponsor of the KIA Tigers baseball team.

This follows recent controversy surrounding aespa’s Karina, who faced heavy criticism over a photo interpreted as political. Despite clarifying her intent, she endured significant public backlash—highlighting the growing sensitivity around celebrity influence and political expression.
